It’s 10 weeks until Christmas. That’s not actually that far away, and you know how these things just creep up on you… believe me, I do. I’m suddenly 37 weeks pregnant, and in 9 weeks I’ll have a 2 year old! *insert “what have we done!!!!” freak out here*

So to help you get organised for Christmas, and in turn help me get as much done as possible before Jumpbaby arrives, I’ve decided to offer you this…

Early Bird Christmas Card Offer

Offer 1: Single-sided 6″x4″ photo cards, full colour, with free magnets on the reverse side so your family and friends can stare at your beautiful faces on their fridge all year round (because I don’t know about you, but I get the guilts ‘removing’ people from my fridge). Minimum order of 10, but you’re not restricted to multiples of 10 for these ones

Offer 2: Double-sided postcard sized photo cards, full colour front side and greyscale reverse. Available in batches of 10

Both these offers are $1.50 per card – that’s it! That’s a saving of 50c on the single-sided cards, and a whopping $1 off the postcard style cards.

Orders need to be placed and paid for by 31st October, but you don’t have to provide your photos until you’ve finished your cover-the-cute-kid-in-tinsel photo shoot or whichever way you choose to commemorate this occasion! The theme we’re going for this year is make-sure-the-toddler-doesn’t-gouge-out-his-baby-sibling’s-eyes

You can pick from any of these aptly named photo Christmas card designs:

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.154410514603646.28010.130165047028193&type=1

There is no doubt that social media seems to be taking over the world. It has become socially acceptable to opening talk about tweeting, Facebooking, poking, liking, unfriending and flick(e)ring – these terms appear to have seamlessly slipped into our vocabulary. Whilst spending time on Facebook and other social media platforms can be very counterproductive (and quite frankly great for procrastination), it can also be an extremely powerful tool for businesses.

Social media sites allow you to spread the word about what you do, to anyone that will listen, for free. As long as you abide by Facebook’s rules and guidelines in terms of promotions, competitions and spam, you’re good to go. build a little biz‘s blog post, facebook rules: blocking spam & shutting down pages, explains what Facebook are up to at the moment in response to some businesses not following their guidelines. This post is well worth a read if you’re not familiar with what is allowed/not allowed on Facebook.

Maintaining social networking pages for your business does take time. It does take commitment. But you get out of it what you put into it – and you’ve got nothing to lose.

The bottom line: social networking is free, yet priceless for small businesses. Social media sites such as Facebook provide you with a free platform that you can brand to match your website and other marketing tools, and use to reach potentially every single Facebook user in the world. That’s pretty powerful!

So before you write social media off as ‘just another thing to do’, think again!

What have you found has worked best for your business in terms of social networking? If you haven’t gotten your business on to Facebook, what is holding you back?

You’ve probably heard the buzzword ‘SEO’ being bandied around the web, but what does it really mean, and do you even need it? SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. SEO is the process of ensuring your website’s content and code appeals to search engines, so they can rank your site according to how relevant it is for what you claim to do. If you’ve got some good search engine optimisation happening, your site has a much better chance of appearing closer to the top of the list of search results.

Do I really need it?

Yes. Yes you do. But why?

It’s pretty much a given that someone, or many someones, are looking for exactly what it is that your business has to offer. So, why wouldn’t you want to make it as easy as possible for them to find what they’re looking for?

There is no real point of being on the internet and having a fancy website if no-one can find it.

Some interesting things to consider when questioning the importance of SEO are:

There are millions and millions of websites, with billions of pages within them;

Many of these pages don’t even make it into a search engine’s results;

Only the top 10 web pages are listed on a search engine’s results page, and these have been chosen because Google considers them to be the most relevant for the keyword entered;

Only 68% of users go past the first page of results; and

98% of people don’t go past the third page.

Have you had a good or bad experience with SEO? Where do most people hear about your website?

Your business may only be small, but when it comes to the benefits a website can provide to any business, size is irrelevant. Simply put, if you don’t have a website, it is highly likely that you’re losing business to people that do. If potential customers don’t know your business exists, how can they choose you over your competitor?

A website is even essential for businesses that don’t have products that are sold online. Why? Because your competitors are doing it! Now, we’re not advocating the whole ‘if he jumps off a cliff, will you jump off a cliff?’ mentality, but unfortunately if your competitor is online and you’re not, the harsh reality is that you’re not going to get a look in. So even if it’s a brochure style website that showcases your products or services and prompts potential customers to contact you, at least your name is out there in the big bad web world (the same reason thousands of businesses pay a bazillion dollars to be listed in the Yellow Pages year after year).

A website also provides a pretty huge return on investment. Unlike print advertising like flyers, brochures etc, where if you need to change something you have to reprint them, a website can have changes made and the new information is made available instantly. So your website can save you money in advertising and printing costs. Also, it can significantly cut down the time you have to spend answering phone calls and answering tedious off-the-topic emails – the contact forms on your site can be created to request only the exact information you want from your customers.

Not to mention your website is theoretically available to every single person in the world. Try doing THAT with a newspaper ad!

What is the main benefit of your website? How has your website helped you run your business more efficiently?
